Can a strong resume make up for a low CGPA?

My CGPA is not very high, but I’ve worked on projects and built some solid skills. Can a good resume actually offset a low CGPA during placements, or does CGPA still block most opportunities?

Yes, a strong resume can make up for a low CGPA, but with some limits.

CGPA is mainly used as an initial filter, especially in campus placements. If a company has a strict cutoff, even a good resume may not get shortlisted there. That part is largely out of your control.

Where a strong resume really helps is beyond that first filter. In off-campus roles, startups, and many product teams, CGPA matters far less than what you’ve actually done. Good projects, internships, open-source work, or relevant experience can easily outweigh a low CGPA if you can explain them well.

I’ve seen many people with average or low CGPA get good roles because their resume showed clear skills and real work. You can’t change your CGPA overnight, but you can definitely build a resume strong enough that it stops being the main talking point.
