How Startup Hiring Is Different from Campus Placements?

I’m trying to understand how hiring at startups differs from regular campus placements. Is the interview process, skill expectations, or job security very different? For someone just starting out, is it better to go through campus placements or try startups directly?

Campus placements and startup hiring are very different in practice.

In campus placements, the process is fixed. There are CGPA cutoffs, aptitude tests, coding rounds, and formal interviews. Companies know students are freshers, so they focus more on basics and usually provide training after joining.

Startup hiring is much more informal. Most startups do not care much about CGPA or college name. They look at what you have actually done. Projects, internships, past work, or how you think through a real problem matters more. After joining, you are expected to contribute quickly with less hand holding.

Campus placements are safer and more predictable. Startup hiring involves more responsibility and uncertainty. Neither is better for everyone. It depends on what kind of learning and work style you are comfortable with.
