Tips to Include Technical Projects on Your Resume

Hey everyone :waving_hand:

I’m updating my resume and wanted some advice on how to properly include technical projects.

Should I just list the project name and tech stack, or is it better to explain the problem statement, my contribution, and the impact/results? Also, how detailed should project descriptions be — especially if I’m a fresher?

Would love to know what recruiters actually look for in project sections and any tips to make them stand out. Thanks in advance :raising_hands:

Hey! I had the same confusion when I was updating my resume, so sharing what I learned :slightly_smiling_face:

From what I’ve seen (and also heard from recruiters), just listing the project name and tech stack isn’t enough anymore. A lot of people do that, so it doesn’t really make you stand out.

It’s much better to briefly explain:

  • what the project was about (problem statement),

  • what you actually did,

  • and what came out of it (any result, insight, or improvement).

Even as a fresher, you don’t need anything super fancy, just showing that you understand your project and didn’t blindly follow a tutorial makes a big difference.

Try to keep it simple and clear, like 3–4 bullet points per project. Focus more on your contribution and thinking rather than writing long descriptions.

Honestly, when I started doing this, my projects felt much stronger on my resume

Tips to Include Technical Projects on Your Resume

For freshers, projects are your strongest proof of skill. Recruiters use them to assess how you solve problems, what you built, and the outcomes you achieved.

What Recruiters Look For

Problem-solving ability
Was it a real problem or just a tutorial?

Ownership
What exactly did you do?

Results
Did your work improve accuracy, efficiency, or scale?

Best Structure to Follow

1. Project Title and Context
Clear title with one-line description
Example: AI Resume Screening System, ranks resumes based on job descriptions

2. Problem Statement
Define the problem clearly
Example: Manual resume screening is slow and inconsistent

3. Your Contribution
Be specific about your work

  • Built NLP-based ranking model

  • Designed data pipeline

  • Developed web interface

4. Tech Stack
Keep it concise
Python, Scikit-learn, Flask

5. Impact and Results
Show measurable outcomes

  • Reduced screening time by 40 percent

  • Achieved 85 percent accuracy

  • Processed 1000 plus resumes

Ideal Length

3 to 5 bullet points per project. Keep it crisp and scannable.

Strong Example

Stock Price Prediction Model
Forecasted stock prices using historical data

  • Processed 5 years of data

  • Built Linear Regression and LSTM models

  • Improved accuracy by 18 percent

  • Visualized trends using Matplotlib

Mistakes to Avoid

  • Listing only names and tools

  • Using generic or copied descriptions

  • Overloading jargon

  • Skipping results

How to Stand Out

  • Use real-world problems and datasets

  • Prioritize depth over number of projects

  • Add GitHub or demo links

  • Align projects with job roles

Final Takeaway

Structure every project around problem, contribution, and impact. This clearly signals capability and makes your resume more competitive.
