Is React still the best frontend framework?

With so many frontend frameworks available now, I’m wondering if React is still the top choice for developers. Or have frameworks like Vue, Angular, or Svelte started to offer better advantages? I’d be interested to hear what everyone prefers and why.

React is still one of the best frontend choices because of its huge ecosystem, job demand, community support, and flexibility. But it is not always the “best” for every project. Vue is easier for beginners, Angular is strong for large enterprise apps, and Svelte is great for performance and simplicity. For career growth, React is still a very safe and valuable framework to learn first.

I think React is still a great choice, mainly because of its huge community, ecosystem, and job opportunities. But Vue, Angular, and Svelte are definitely worth considering too. At the end of the day, it really depends on the project and what you’re comfortable working with. There’s no one-size-fits-all framework.

I think React is still one of the most popular choices for frontend development, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it is the best option for every project.

React has a huge developer community, a large ecosystem of libraries, plenty of learning resources, and strong support from the industry. Because of this, it can be a practical choice for both beginners and experienced developers.

At the same time, other frameworks have their own advantages:

  • Vue is relatively easy to learn and has a simple, flexible approach to building applications.

  • Angular offers a more structured and complete framework, which can be useful for large applications and teams that prefer a clear architecture.

  • Svelte takes a different approach by doing much of its work during the build process, which can lead to simpler code and less work in the browser.

So rather than asking, “Which framework is the best?”, I think it makes more sense to ask, “Which one is best for this particular project?”

React is still a strong and widely used option, but Vue, Angular, and Svelte can also be great choices depending on the project requirements, team experience, performance needs, and personal preference.

AI is unlikely to make traditional front-end development obsolete, but it is changing how front-end developers work. AI coding tools can already generate components, suggest fixes, write tests, and speed up repetitive tasks, while developers still need to make architectural, UX, accessibility, performance, and security decisions.

What AI Can Automate

  • Boilerplate HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and React code
  • UI component generation
  • Basic debugging and refactoring
  • Unit-test creation
  • Documentation and code suggestions
  • Converting designs into initial front-end layouts

What Front-End Developers Still Need to Handle

Human expertise remains important for:

  • Responsive and accessible UX
  • Complex application state and architecture
  • Browser compatibility
  • Performance optimisation
  • API and backend integration
  • Security and authentication flows
  • Design-system consistency
  • Reviewing and validating AI-generated code

How the Front-End Developer Role Is Changing

The role is moving from writing every line manually toward directing, reviewing, integrating, and optimising AI-assisted code. Skills in JavaScript, TypeScript, React, APIs, web performance, accessibility, and system design therefore remain valuable.

AI will probably reduce repetitive front-end work rather than remove front-end development itself. Developers who combine strong web-development fundamentals with AI coding tools will be better positioned than those who rely entirely on either manual coding or AI-generated output.
