Is it too late to switch to data science after 10 years of experience?

I’ve been wondering if switching to Data Science after 10 years of experience is a realistic move or if it’s too late to start over. Can someone’s existing industry knowledge and professional experience give them an advantage, or would they still need to compete for entry-level roles? Would love to hear others’ experiences.

It’s definitely not too late! Your 10 years of experience can be an advantage because you already understand business problems and how your industry works.

I’d suggest learning Python, SQL, statistics, and machine learning, then building projects related to your current industry. You may need to start in a more junior data science role, but you can also explore analytics roles that value your existing experience.

Honestly, 10 years of experience is nothing to feel bad about! You already have a lot of work experience, so now it’s just about adding a new skill set to it. Start small, learn the basics, and see how you enjoy working with data before making a big career move. You don’t have to figure everything out at once.
