If you’re a finance team leader looking to move into data, you have a few good options. You don’t necessarily need to start from an entry-level role, especially if you target positions that value your finance knowledge and team management experience.

Here are the roles I’d consider first:

- **Finance Data Analyst:** A natural fit if you work with financial reports, budgets, and performance metrics.

- **BI Analyst or BI Manager:** Good if you enjoy dashboards, KPI tracking, and helping management make data-driven decisions.

- **FP&A Analytics:** Ideal if your experience includes budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.

- **Risk Analyst:** Worth exploring if you have experience with financial risk, controls, compliance, or unusual transactions.

- **MIS Manager or Reporting Manager:** A practical transition if your strengths are reporting, performance monitoring, and process improvement.

- **Data Analytics Manager:** Possible if you have strong leadership experience and can demonstrate solid technical and analytical skills.

I’d start by learning SQL and Power BI, then add Python if your target roles require it. Build one or two projects around financial forecasting, budget variance, or KPI dashboards.

My suggestion is to target **Finance Analytics, BI, or FP&A Analytics roles first** because they let you build on your existing experience. Check job descriptions carefully, though—some managerial data roles expect several years of hands-on analytics experience, not just people management.
