# How long does it take a BPO employee to become a data scientist?

I’m curious about how long it realistically takes someone working in a BPO role to transition into Data Science while managing a full-time job. Has anyone made this switch, and how much time did it take to learn skills like Python, statistics, and machine learning? Would love to hear about real experiences.

I think it’s definitely possible to switch from BPO to data science while working full-time. If you can study consistently for 1–2 hours a day, you could build a foundation in around 6–12 months, depending on your starting point and practice.

I’d suggest learning Python, statistics, SQL, and then machine learning, while working on real projects. Don’t rush it; focus on building practical skills.

Switching from BPO to data science while working full-time is doable, but your biggest challenge might be finding the energy to study after a long shift. Start with SQL and Python, take it one step at a time, and build some projects along the way.
