I’ve been working in quality management and recently started looking into data science. I’m curious if I can use my experience to move into this field and what I should learn to get started.

Yes, a Quality Manager can absolutely work towards a career in data science. Your experience with quality metrics, root cause analysis, process improvement, and performance tracking gives you a useful foundation for solving data-driven problems.

I’d recommend learning Excel, SQL, Python, statistics, and machine learning step by step. You can practise with projects like defect trend analysis, quality prediction, or identifying factors that affect product performance.

I also found the HCL GUVI Data Science Course helpful for structured learning and hands-on projects. You can explore the course here and check whether the curriculum and career support fit your goals.

Your quality management experience can help you stand out when combined with technical skills. Start with small projects related to your industry and build your portfolio as you learn.

Yes, a Quality Manager can build a career in Data Science. Experience with defect analysis, root cause investigation, process improvement, and quality metrics can be valuable when working with data.

I’d suggest learning SQL, Python, statistics, and Power BI first, followed by Machine Learning. Start with projects like predicting product defects, identifying quality trends, or analysing factors that contribute to failures.

You could target roles such as Quality Data Analyst or Data Analyst before moving into Data Science. Your domain experience is an advantage, but you’ll need hands-on coding, modelling skills, and practical projects to make the transition.
